This page describes projects which are too huge to be done without the support of the community - you.
It also gives you the opportunity to promote them with your daily vote!

I. Why this page
Atlantica-db already provides a complete and updated database about the MMORPG Atlantica Online.
It's a lot a work to build and to maintain - NDOORS uses to update their game regularly, both with new content and modification of the existing gameplay.
And this job is done at 98% by a single unemployed guy, who doesn't expect to become rich with his fansite (!), but cannot waste his time by working again and again on Atlantica-db. Despite some non-intrusive adverstisements, there isn't any paying feature or premium subscription like many "professional" MMORPG networks/fansites do (Curse Network, ZAM-Wowhead, etc).
So, if the AO community wants additionnal feature/content that require a lot of work, the community will have to show its support and... its priorities!.
II. How does it work.
It's very easy:
- There is a list of projects (feature, new content) that the community would like to see on Atlantica-db
- Everyone can vote daily for his/her favorite project (one vote by IP by day)
- People who are active on Atlantica-db have more voices (see below)
- 1 voice represents 8 seconds of work on the related project
Concrete example: Let's consider 400 persons (representing 500 voices, because some of them are active on the site) who vote for the Craft Calculator everydays. It would represent 40 minutes of daily work dedicated to the Craft Calculator.
How your amount of voices is calculated?
The rule is: one vote = one voice ; activity on Atlantica-db gives more voices.
- Visitor / Member: 1 voice / vote
- Translator: +10 voices. Thanks to them, guides are available in other languages
- Trusted Player: +10 voices. These players manage the Box/Monster editors
- Guides: +5 voices by validated guide you write, because it's a precious addition to the "raw" data that Atlantica-db provides
- Forum posts: +1 voice every 10 posts (except tests or pointless posts), because it helps the community and makes the site alive
Concrete example: you're (1) a translator (+10) who wrote 2 guides (+10) and posted 62 messages (+6) you can vote for 28 voices everydays.
III. List of projects.
Note: I only propose projects I can code AND maintain, as far as Ndoors doesn't change the related gameplay too much.
Database : Quests
AOP has an huge compilation of Quests, with details and tips. It's the only game content that Atlantica-db doesn't have, and one of the most useful for gamers.
But it isn't updated anymore, and so don't have the highest level quests and the minor modifications inside the existing quests.
I never started the "quests" section on Atlantica-db for a good reason: it's an huge work. Not the hardest but the most time-consuming one. It also requires a flexible and clear coding to allow easy updates, plus interaction with other pages of the site (monsters/items/dungeon/NPC related to the quest).
The Quests section on Atlantica-db would be very long to complete, but would propose an improved browsing, and a better linking between quest parts (example: NPC A part 2 leads to NPC B part 5 then back to NPC A part 3 etc).
Tool : Craft Calculator
Many players know - and still use - the AOP's Craft Calculator. If you don't, its doc will show you how useful it is. Here are the main features:
- Show full "crafting tree" (materials, materials to craft these materials, etc) for each item
- Filtering options to work with the skill and the items you're interested in
- User can specify and save his/her settings: skill levels and material prices
- Calculate many things: crafting cost, experience, auto-craft time...
Another flaw is that, due to the way AOP was concepted, the craft database wasn't very easy (and long) to maintain. That's why a few errors (a wrong workload here, another incorrect material quantity there...) used to be present after each patch update (quickly corrected after it was reported).
The new Craft Calculator would take benefict from the right and updated Atlantica-db database, and its integration within the site. It wouldn't be a simple copy of the AOP's one, but a new tool, more powerful and more evolutive.
Note: I've already worked about 40 hours on it (before the Atlantica-db release). So I have a draft, but it's far from a finished product.
Tool : Character Simulator & Formation Builder
10,000 characters and 3,000 formations have been created on AOP during the last months. We can say they are popular too!
Linked with the item & mercenary database, they are obviously outdated.
It's possible to adapt them for Atlantica-db and to save profiles.
The character simulator would work "real-time", showing stats as you modify the character/mercenary.
Note: Ndoors announced they were working on a web-based Formation builder a long time ago.
Tool : Arena Stats
This tool was proposed by a player on the AOP forum (you can read its topic), and aimed to record Archives of past Arena matches, so as to propose Win/Lost percentages (and better chance to get a successful bet!).
It's the perfect example of "how to waste time by listening to players", since I had to drop it after a lot of work and... nobody interested anymore to use it. Note: a preview is available here, select Alexandra#5 and Beatrice#3 to see one of the rare recorded result.
If players -you- support this project, it is possible to adapt it for Atlantica-db, and to improve its flexibility (some new Gladiators appeared, some formations change with patches).
Contributors (Trusted Players only) would submit results by selecting the winner/loser formations ; new builds would be added using a Formation Builder syntax, (with the Gladiator name instead of the Main character), pictures would be generated (when a new formation is entered) and the database updated.
It's probably the fastest project to code, but the most useless if people don't use it. Indeed, like the monster locations/loots, data would be submited by the community, without no intervention from me.
